The Griffith Observatory
I'd like to say a heartfelt "thank you" to Los Angeles for giving us spectacular places like the Griffith Observatory. The Griffith is a pretty special place for me - every single time I'm in town, I make an effort to pay it a visit and quietly contemplate all the good (and sometimes the bad) of the moment. Invariably, no matter how I arrive, I always leave feeling recharged and positive. When I used to split my time between NYC and LA, I made visiting a monthly ritual. Maybe it's the bird's eye view of the seemingly endless collection of strip malls and Del Tacos that makes up Los Angeles or the incredibly fragrant, evergreen infused air. Perhaps its the view of the Hollywood sign (which, like every great monument of modern civilization, looks smaller in person than it does on the Hollywood Video signs that used to be plentiful when I was a kid) or the fact that, on a clear day, you can see the Pacific Ocean. Maybe the Griffith is just special and reminds me of why I enjoy being in LA so much. Do yourself a favor and pay a visit the next time you're in town. Bring someone important or just treat yourself - you'll be happy you did.
